There Be Dragons

How do you decide if a story is fantasy or science fiction?

One way to decide is to think about how the author explains the existence of any unusual creatures, such as a dragon. If the explanation is magic, or being in a magical realm, the story is probably fantasy. If there is a scientific explanation, the story is probably science fiction.

Imagine you are writing a science fiction story about a dragon. How would you explain the dragon's existence on Earth to your readers?
