The Great Solar Flare Incident

Here's the scenario so far.

We have a "what if" question that will form the basis of our story: What if a solar flare arrived that affected Earth so strongly that all electronic devices stopped working for several minutes?

Last month, we asked for ideas about a character for this story. Margaret, from Katy, Texas, has provided our main character. His name is Dexter Crawford ("Dex" to friends). He is a computer software designer living in the Midwest.

Before we learn more about Dex, it's time to decide on the problem that will face him in this story.

Look around you. If all electronic devices in your vicinity stopped working for several minutes, then started again, what would happen? Think wider. What would happen in your community during those minutes and afterwards? In your country? In the world?

Write down the possible consequence or problem that interests you most. It can be something that in our story would matter just to our main character, someone he knows, or to everyone. Next time, we'll pick one of your ideas and continue working on the story.

Send your idea to challenge@snkids.com or use the form below. Please include your first name, age, city or town, and state. If you are under 13 years old, get your parent's permission to write to us. You may be eligible for a prize!
