Pet Predicament
Bill's dog, cat, and puppy are trained to follow along on his vigorous cross-country hikes. On today's hike, they have come to a raging creek that the animals can't cross without Bill's help. The problem is the cat, which can't be left alone with either the puppy or big dog (they always fight). If Bill can carry only one animal across at a time, can he get all three pets safely across? If so, how?

Yes.
Bill should first ford the creek with the cat, then return alone to the near bank. Next, he should carry the puppy across, immediately collect the cat, and carry the cat back to the starting point. Once there, he should deposit the cat on shore and lug the big dog across, then return for the cat and make his last crossing to the far side.
