About Science News for Kids and Science News
Science News for Kids was launched in 2003 by Society for Science & the Public as a youth edition and companion to SSP’s Science News magazine. SSP is a nonprofit membership organization based in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1921, and first known as Science Service, SSP advances the public understanding of science through publications and educational programs.
Since its launch, SSP has received regular feedback from educators who use Science News for Kids (SNK) inside and outside of their classrooms. SSP and the staff of SNK encourage educators to visit regularly to find:
- timely, interesting news stories and longer in-depth articles about a wide variety of science topics
- suggestions and resources for hands-on activities, books, articles, and web resources
- coverage of the world’s leading science, engineering, math, and technology competitions for young people
Many articles in SNK include resources to help students learn more about the topic covered, including: Going Deeper, Power Words, Related Articles, Teachers Questions, and Word Find.
In addition to the content and resources in SNK, SSP’s flagship publication, Science News, which has been published since 1922, provides crisp, concise coverage of all fields of science daily. Reaching the global community with professional, intelligent, accessible, award-winning coverage, online and in print, Science News delivers news from across the range of scientific disciplines. Educators are encouraged to consider a bulk subscription to the print edition of Science News for the classroom.
